Roger receives his Award from Paul Jepson – Managing Director of YONEX UK LTD

BADMINTON England has just announced Roger Cook from Stockton on Tees as their Volunteer of the Year, for making an outstanding contribution to badminton in England in the past 12 months.

Roger has been for years one of the unsung heroes of badminton at local level, county, level and national level.  He works tirelessly across the whole spectrum of badminton every week and most weekends.  Without Roger lots of badminton activities would grind to a halt.  Examples of some of the activities he is committed to as a volunteer are:

Teesside Active Badminton League – Secretary and Treasurer

Teesside Badminton Development Association – Treasurer

Teesside Badminton Performance Centre – Treasurer + Administrator

Club coaching – 5 sessions each week, juniors and adults

Yorkshire Badminton Association – coaching co-ordinator

Durham County Badminton Association – Child Welfare Officer

National Tournaments – Organiser + Referee

All England Badminton Championships – Driver

BADMINTON England – Community Advisory Group

David Knights Chair of Teesside Badminton Performance Centre said, “We do not know of anyone who is more passionate and has put more into the game than Roger.  This is long overdue recognition for the many hours that Roger puts in for badminton every week.  We all would like to say thank you and congratulations to Roger ”.

Roger will be presented with his award at a National Badminton Awards Winners lunch during the Yonex All England Badminton Open Championships taking place in Birmingham from the 5th – 10th of March.
