Another successful Junior Badminton Tournament was held at Tees Active’s Thornaby Pavilion.

The tournament, which is organised by the Teesside Badminton Development Association (TBDA), is sponsored by Tees Active Limited, who provided the Courts and Higman Sports, who provided the shuttles. The Tournament is open to all players under 19 years old, who attend a school or badminton club within the Tees Valley, regardless of ability.

The tournament has 18 singles categories, 16 level doubles categories and 3 mixed doubles categories. For each category there is a trophy and winner/s and runner/s-up medals to be won.

There were a total of 105 players entered into the tournament. Unfortunately some competitions had to be combined or were not run due to lack of entries in those age groups.

There were 65 Boys and 25 Girls taking part in the Singles competitions on the Saturday. As with previous tournaments, the largest numbers of entries were from the Novice Boys. The U13 Novice Boys had 17 players and the U15 Novice Boys had 15 players.

On Sunday, there were 35 Boys and 27 Girls taking part in the Doubles competitions

During the weekend there were 330 games of badminton played, 227 on singles day and 103 on doubles day.

Each event category had it’s own mini-league/s with appropriate semi-finals and finals.

Consequently every player had a chance to play several matches.

Dates of the next two Local Junior Tournaments are 3^rd/4^th October 2009 and 27^th/28^th March 2010 at Thornaby Pavilion.

In addition Thornaby Pavilion will be a hosting a number of BADMINTON England Junior Silver & Bronze Tournaments during November, December, January & February.
